In the previous post I gave some advice on making good wedding photography’s though planning.
I mentioned you could use a family member or guest if you don’t have money for a professional photographer. But please, if you find this as the only solution you should make sure your friend got some experience, decent equipment and a style you like. This is also important if you choose to use a professional photographer; he should have the experience and style you like.
The most important issue is not to have pictures from your wedding, but photographs and memories you enjoy looking at.
A good tip if you are using a friend is to make some preparations. The best way for him to get great results for this person would be to learn from the pro. He or she could ask a professional wedding photographer to join him, and learn – without a camera! He or she should volunteer to be their assistant for free to learn from them. I know it will take some time, but a person’s best way to learn is to educate themselves through professionals. And I am sure a professional will take the time if you ask nicely and volunteer to help for free to learn from him. Most people enjoy teaching others and might feel some flattered to be asked to teach. The photographer might give some money for the assistance, but don’t expect it. Expect the education you get from him the main payment for life.
Next time your photographer can ask to come along to try taking some photos himself as long as he/she promises not to come in their master’s way. After the wedding you could discuss the results with the photographer teaching away his skills.
Your family member or friend suddenly got some experience that will help him create great pictures for your wedding.
Your friend or family member might also try to make pictures for free from another wedding to get better experience, only asking money for expenses like printing etc.
You might very well have educated your friend to be good enough to start his own small little business doing wedding photography’s, as well as having someone with some experience to cover your own wedding for free. You have helped both yourself and your friend during educating him for your wedding. And your friend might be better than most amateur photographers to take photos.
